“Kalimboid” finds Arp and his ensemble in fiery form. A minimoog sequence, evoking a kalimba, begins, reverb’d hand percussion dances, getting quite loose, before drums enter, well charged. A horn motif arrives before going into uncharted, heated terrain. “Kalimboid” is proof the group can not only create deep listening but propulsive music on the edge of chaos.

To celebrate the release of Ensemble – Live!, Arp will be performing as an ensemble at Brooklyn’s National Sawdust the evening of Thursday, December 12. Joining the group will be fellow visionary Ana Roxanne (Leaving Records) and DJs CZ Wang (Mood Hut) and Yale Evelev (Luaka Bop).
